Trail Blazers point guard Damian Lillard adds another commercial to this acting resume, though this one is a bit different, both in role and length.
In a new long form spot, entitled “Madden Season,” for the release of EA Sports’ Madden NFL 15 video game, Kevin Hart, an emerging box office star, torments Dave Franco, who was most recently in “Neighbors” and is the brother of enigmatic actor James Franco, in the way that those who regularly play video games against each other do (my roommate in college once told me he was actually afraid I was going to attack him in his sleep after heated FIFA ’98 battles). The commercial takes us through a series of unfortunate events befalling Franco, presumably thanks to Hart’s involvement.
Lillard’s cameo starts at the 1:05 mark, as a distraught Franco runs out of his house to find his girlfriend preparing to ride off into the sunset with the 6-3 guard . Lillard shakes his head at Franco, who is dating actress Allison Bree in real life, before exiting the scene with Franco’s girlfriend. Lillard has some trouble letting the clutch out on the trike (perhaps a little wink to Lillard’s reputation for clutch play) as Franco says “Damian?” in disbelief.
Other athletes in the commercial include Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman and 49er quarterback Colin Kaepernick, but as far as I can tell, Lillard is the only non-NFL athlete featured.
